What is The Immigrant Life?
The Immigrant Life is a work of legacy started by Dapo Bankole, a Nigerian-Canadian who migrated to Canada with his family in 2012. It is a movement and an online resource that provides quality, actionable insights, a connected community, and community-driven support for first-generation Canadian immigrants.
As challenging as the Canadian immigration process is, it is easily the simplest part of the journey and the reality of integration after arrival is a complex experience that must be understood and conquered daily. The conquest is tougher to achieve alone hence it requires a movement of like-minded individuals who no matter where they are in the integration journey, have risen beyond individualistic desires to the bigger ideals of the Canadian immigrant community. The complexity of integration is a critical challenge whose solution lies in the hands of first-generation Canadians themselves.
This gave rise to the Immigrant Life which initially started as a podcast on Canada day (July 1) in 2018. Since then, through word-of-mouth, and the work that Dapo has done to help fellow first-generation immigrants, the community has grown exponentially. This is where you can learn, share and be a part of this global and national community that continues to grow daily thus providing you with enriching and insightful resources. Today, the community caters to both aspiring and new immigrants.
What is the objective of The Immigrant Life?
To help first-generation Canadian immigrants THRIVE and make a difference in their chosen spheres of influence by building Canada’s most reliable community-driven online resource that immigrants can consult confidently in a collaborative environment.
We are achieving this by tenaciously building a platform where we cross-pollinate ideas, experiences and intelligence drawn from Canadian immigrants, thought leaders in fields that we care about, research institutes and organizations who align with our values.
We are building a community, an intelligent movement of like-minded individuals who will pull one another up through compassion and action so that regardless of where an immigrant is in the integration journey, that individual can leverage this platform to make the best decisions that will yield a thriving life!
Drawing from reflections on Zig Ziglar’s “wheel of life”, The Immigrant Life focuses on eight cardinal points of an immigrant’s life as represented in TIL Bubbles (see image below). By taking this approach, we strategically help every immigrant to discover where they are in each of these critical areas of life, create a pathway for moving forward towards their ideal state and help others while on this journey.
The Immigrant Life is your one stop platform that will help you find relevant, actionable information on anything and meet helpful people so that your process of settling down in this great country is as smooth as possible.
We want to invite you to be a part of this community – to help you move ahead in the direction you desire and for you to be helpful to others through sharing your experiences, learning and services you can offer.
