What’s The Buzz? Pink Shirt Day!

Today, February 24 is Pink Shirt Day – a day to stand against bullying. By wearing pink shirt you show that you stand against all forms of bullying against minorities and those of the LGBTQ community.

Pink Shirt Day began in Canada in 2007 when students from a Nova Scotia school took a stand against homophobic bullying after a new student was harassed and threatened for wearing pink.

The students took it upon themselves to change the way a colour is perceived and that someone is harassed for their choice of the colour. They went out and bought pink shirts for many other students to wear.

You can show your support by wearing pink and taking these steps on not just this day but everyday:
– Proudly wear the colour pink regardless of your gender.
– Always stand up against bullying!
– If you see someone being harassed, speak up.
– Respect every one and their choices.
– Do not partake in any behavior that makes another person uncomfortable.
