Celebrate the beginning of Spring by planting a tree, starting your garden, or just having a picnic outside.
If the long, harsh and cold winter in Canada is making you feel exhausted the time of rejuvenation is here. Today, March 20, is the March equinox which marks the beginning of spring.
Spring is when plants, wilted by the cold, start sprouting signalling new beginnings and to the human beings who are tired of being indoors this is the time to get out, feel the warmth of the sun on our skin. Spring ushers in warmth and to many of us in Canada it feels like we are coming out of hibernation.
The March equinox is the beginning of the spring season in the Northern Hemisphere and the autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. It is considered a time of new beginnings and a bountiful harvest. In Japan, it is a public holiday where it’s a day for celebration of the family, nature and all living things.
For us immigrants this is akin to restarting a new life. Celebrate it by planting a tree, starting your garden or just having a picnic outside. A year since the COVID-19 pandemic hit and we went into lockdown, here’s hoping this spring will set the scene for better days for us all.
Which is your favorite season of the year?
