It is easy to get swamped into the quagmire of an immigrant life which is oftentimes clouded by complex confusions. However, the Immigrant Life is your friend in this journey, and we bring you tips and tricks on how to navigate this path while cleaning the weeds outside as well as clearing the inner doubts.

For any human being, building a lifestyle means being able to have control over how you spend your time and money. In trying to achieve that, there is a need to have some inner soul searching.

The host of The Immigrant Life Podcast, Dapo Bankole, reveals some fundamental changes he made to his life when he embarked on this journey such as getting rid of instant messaging systems in his phone which was taking up a lot of his time and energy.

He also shares a fun exercise that provides him the direction for changes he needs to adopt in order to figure what are the changes that need to be made. This exercise helps you see where your time is going just like the screen time feature that your phone has which shows you how much time you spent on each app and how much time you spend on phone each day or each week.

Is what I am doing right now the best use of my time to create the life that I want for myself and my family? An honest answer to this question will help you chart the course ahead

Let’s call it a time matrix.

On a paper, chart the 24 hours of the day and in the column create seven days of the week. Do the math of the amount of time you spend on work, business, social activity, family time, charity, physical activities each day. This reflects how your day goes. This exercise is an eyeopener to your life.

In another, create a dream schedule – how you would want your days to look.

Next, create next step schedule that will bridge the gap between your current and dream schedule and try to stick to it.

You can do the same with your money. How much you are earning and what are you spending. What’s your dream income and how you can achieve it. Do you dream to earn more while working less hours? What steps must you take to do so?

In the course of this exercise, you will realize that things have to move around in order to make that shift in your lifestyle. A deeper look at our current life, how we are leading it, how we are making use of or wasting our time and money provide us the best guide for the change that needs to be made.

After the exercise, try to answer this question: Is what I am doing right now the best use of my time to create the life that I want for myself and my family? An honest answer to this question will help you chart the course ahead. Like we said earlier, the secret of your success lies in your daily routine i.e. things you default to everyday give you a cumulative result.

Your life is your doing.
