The Immigrant Life wishes everyone celebrating Holi – Happy Holi! May our lives be filled with joy and vigour!
South Asian communities around the world are celebrating Holi, today. Known for its vibrant colours, it is one of the most celebrated Hindu festival signifying the triumph of good over evil.
The festival falls on a full-moon day and also marks the end of winter and arrival of spring in South Asia. Usually people gather in big groups and play with colours and water and eat delicacies. That, however, would not be advisable this year due to the pandemic and given that the cases are still on the rise. But we can certainly embody the spirit of the festival which stands for positivity, forgiveness and unity.
Canada has a significant population that identifies with the festival as Hindu community and celebrates it. Immigrants from all over the world bring their unique culture and traditions and share with others making Canada truly diverse. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recognized this and wished those celebrating. “It is a time to celebrate new beginnings, renew and strengthen relationships, and look forward to the year ahead with optimism and joy.”
