Awaken the Giant Within!

In the movie, “Joe Versus the Volcano”, Joe Banks was a guy who had a very lousy job and a lousy manager at that. He had left his fire fighting job which he loved but because his job consistently put him in harm’s way, he always experienced a fear of losing his life and could not overcome that fear. He started feeling ill and left the fire fighting world.  His new job was no better. He never liked it and was always ill, never felt good. Something was always wrong with him. He was always tired. As a result, he was always seeing doctors.

After one of those days at work, Joe visited his doctor (Dr. Ellison) to pick up his medical test results. He got the shock of his life when his doctor revealed his diagnosis as “brain cloud”, gave him six months to live and advised him to go on vacation with whatever savings he had. “There’s a black fog of tissue running right down the center of your brain. It is exceedingly rare. It will spread at a regular rate. It’s very destructive” said Dr. Ellison.

Overtime he had become hypochondriacal because of his inability to overcome his fear, so it wasn’t surprising when he exclaimed, “Brain cloud! I knew it. Oh, I did not know it…but I knew it! What am I going to do?” “You have some time left Mr. Banks. You have some life left. My advice to you is, “Live it well!” Those were Dr. Ellison’s last words to him.

What are you putting away until life pushes you to act?

Leaving his doctor’s office dejectedly and full of thoughts, the first thing he did was to head back to work and resign. He resigned from the job that held him back all these years, the job that got him ill all the time. An action he never had the courage to take until his death was imminent.

Back in the office, he demonstrated a level of confidence that himself and his colleagues probably never realized he had. Apparently, he died a couple of years back and did not realize it. He faced fear at what he loved doing and rather than ask for help to overcome it, he stopped living. Sadly, he did not know.

And unknown to him, it was all a trick to jolt him back to life. Life realized he needed an external push, so he received help through an orchestrated ailment called ‘brain cloud’. Even the doctor would not have known he was acting a script as part of a grand design.

Indeed, there was nothing wrong with him. But the idea of not having enough time to live released him to face life headlong; after all, what did he have to lose? He was going to die anyway! In a short six months.

Amazingly, he asked ‘Dede’, a female colleague of his out for dinner with an extraordinary level of confidence that left her awestruck! But only after he quit his dead-end job. It was unbelievable he had worked with this beautiful lady in the office for eight years but all along only fantasized about love by reading Romeo and Juliet.
